9 – New kind of insulations for fluid handling

Name of the system:

New kind of insulations for fluid handling

Lead entity within the SAMMBA consortium:

Air Liquide (reach out to us here)

Attachment point within the process chain of the Spaceport operator:

Fluid storage tanks, fluid handling system, launch pad infrastructure

Major benefit within the process chain:

Improved insulation helps spaceports increase the safety of operations and allows to also reach higher levels of reliability. Furthermore, financials can also be slightly improved by this new type of insulation as propellant consumption can be reduced.

Anticipated R&D vector for the near/mid/long-term:

General maturation of the technology and implementation of new kinds of sensors within the insulating materials could be anticipated next R&D vectors.

Modularity granted with the following standards:

The insulations for fluid handling don’t require special modifications and can be for the parts of the fluid handling system using fluids with temperature ranges compatible with the new type of insulator.

Interoperability granted with the following standards:

Interoperability with different fluids depends on the temperature the insulation can withstand. The ability to withstand higher/lower temperatures increases the compatibility and thus interoperability of the technology.

Systems interfaced:

Fluid storage tanks, fluid handling system, launch pad infrastructure
