5 – Qualification of Zn-galvanised steel substrate for launch pad applications

Name of the system:

Qualification of Zn-galvanised steel substrate for launch pad applications

Lead entity within the SAMMBA consortium:

MT Aerospace (reach out to us here)

Attachment point within the process chain of the Spaceport operator:

The Zn-galvanised steel substrate can be used in any steel structure on the launch pad

Major benefit within the process chain:

The substrate would enable an increase in reliability of the launch infrastructure by extending the life of numerous metallic components. Furthermore, the usage of Zn-galvanised steel would also increase availability by reducing maintenance efforts substantially.

Anticipated R&D vector for the near/mid/long-term:

To enable benefitting from the system, the industrialisation of structures needs to happen first. Afterward, an implementation on the launch pad can happen in the mid-term.

Modularity granted with the following standards:

The Zn-galvanised steel substrate doesn’t require special modifications and can be used at any spaceport

Interoperability granted with the following standards:

Mechanical structures

Systems interfaced:

Launcher, Launch base, AGV, mechanical structures
